Abstract
The offenses for which statistics are provided are murder, sex offenses, rape, serious assault, theft, aggravated theft, robbery and violent theft, breaking and entering, motor vehicle theft, other thefts, fraud, counterfeit currency offenses, and drug offenses. The total number of offenses is also provided. For each category of offenses and the total number of offenses reported, a table shows the number of cases known to the police, percentage of attempts, percentage of cases solved, and the volume of crime per 100,000 inhabitants. Information on offenders encompasses the total number of offenders, the percentage of females, the percentage of juveniles, and the percentage of aliens. The introduction advises that the statistics cannot take into account differences among countries in the legal definitions of punishable offenses, calculation methods, or any changes that may have occurred in the countries during the reference period. This report also contains the 1989 statistics for seven countries and the 1990 statistics for nine countries.
