Abstract
The Child Maltreatment Division, Health Canada, funds the Canadian Incidence Study on Reported Child Abuse and Neglect. In preparation for the study, the Division compiled this annotated bibliography of international studies on the incidence and prevalence of child maltreatment. There are nine abstracts of incidence studies, along with tables that summarize these incidence studies with respect to country of study, the source of information, number of reports of abuse, number of finalized investigations, substantiation rates, types of abuse, types of abuse by gender, and time frame. There are 30 abstracts of prevalence studies, technical reports, and selected information about secondary analysis. Tables summarize these studies with respect to name of study, country of study, age group, type of abuse, study size, sampling method, mode of data collection, response rate, and study results. There are nine abstracts of articles that provide information on child abuse registries.
