FINAL REPORT ON A PROJECT TO TRAIN CORRECTIONAL MANAGEMENT PERSONNEL TO BE TRAINERS IN COMMUNICATION SKILLS.
Abstract
THE PURPOSE OF THIS TRAINING IS TO TEACH SKILLS RELATED TO LISTENING, UNDERSTANDING, AND RESPONDING THAT WILL ENABLE THE CORRECTIONS OFFICER AND OTHERS IN DIRECT CONTACT WITH INMATES TO IMPROVE THEIR COMMUNICATION AND AVOID MISUNDERSTANDINGS THAT CREATE TENSION AND CONFLICTS. EACH PARTICIPANT WHO SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETES THE PROGRAM WILL HAVE TWO SETS OF SKILLS - SYSTEMATIC INTERPERSONNEL TRAINING SKILLS AND SKILLS THAT RELATE TO PLANNING AND CONDUCTING COMMUNICATION SKILLS TRAINING PROGRAMS ON AN IN-SERVICE BASIS IN THE PARTICIPANT'S LOCAL AGENCY OR FACILITY.
