Length
177 pages

The main events, developments, and achievements of the Israeli police are summarized for the 1980-1989 decade.
Abstract
This report identifies and focuses on several areas: crime data; investigations and prosecutions; criminal identification; intelligence; patrol and operations; traffic; bomb disposal; communications and electronics; activities of the border guard and the civil guard; police activities in the Northern, Central, Tel Aviv, and Southern Districts; personnel; medical services; training; education; planning, organization and computerization; accounting; budget; logistics; legal counsel; public complaints; and efforts of the Spokesman's Office. The 18,000 person police force did not increase in number over the decade. Outstanding problems during the 1980s include the security situation and enemy activity, growth in drug consumption and traffic, an increase in the number of road casualties, and more disturbance of the peace and disrespect shown for the law. Efforts to examine new systems for improving police activity continued. A system of neighborhood officers was successfully implemented in an attempt to improve community contact and relations. Currently, approximately 70 neighborhood officers work in locations throughout Israel.
