This last in a series of eight checklists for implementing an evidence-based criminal justice and mental health collaboration program provides guidance in assessing organizational readiness for maintaining evidence-based practices (EBPs).

Abstract

An introductory comment notes that agencies or organizations that support staff who are taking risks, being innovative, and identifying solutions to work processes are known as “learning organizations.” These kinds of agencies are best suited for supporting and sustaining implementation of an EBP. This checklist has six components. The first component focuses on ensuring that there are open discussions about EBP within the agency. The second component addresses the identification of processes that develop the agency’s infrastructure to support EBP implementation, such as training, the distribution of work, useful paperwork, clear direction, and staff evaluation support. The third component of the checklist addresses the alignment of recruitment, hiring, and promotional processes with core competencies needed for implementing the EBP. The fourth component concerns the effective use of data to improve the monitoring of progress in EBP implementation. The fifth component involves ensuring that research partnerships have been identified and leveraged to support improvements in implementing the EBP. The sixth component of the checklist involves the establishment of stakeholder panels to obtain feedback on the implementation progress of the EBP.
