COMPREHENSIVE LOOK AT YOUTH CRIME AND THE PROCESS OF JUVENILE JUSTICE AND REHABILITATION.
Abstract
AN EXAMINATION IS PRESENTED OF THE OFFENSES JUVENILES MOST OFTEN BECOME INVOLVED IN AND RECENT, IMPORTANT SUPREME COURT DECISIONS WHICH HAVE EXTENDED THE RIGHTS OF YOUNG PEOPLE. THE BOOK FOLLOWS STEP BY STEP WHAT HAPPENS TO A YOUTH FROM THE TIME HE IS PICKED UP THROUGH HIS COURT APPEARANCE AND AFTERCARE. INCLUDED ARE NUMEROUS CASE STUDIES WHICH SHOW THE TYPICAL EXPERIENCES OF A JUVENILE LAW-BREAKER AND HELP TO ILLUSTRATE THE SUCCESSES AND FAILURES OF THE JUVENILE JUSTICE SYSTEM. THE AUTHOR HAS PULLED TOGETHER MUCH OF THE CURRENT INFORMATION AND OPINION ON THE SUBJECT OF JUVENILE DELINQUENCY AND SHAPED IT INTO AN INFORMATIVE STUDY. TABLES ON THE INCIDENCE OF JUVENILE CRIME, A DETAILED BIBLIOGRAPHY, AND AN INDEX ARE INCLUDED. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT)
