SUGGESTIONS TO CONTROL AND REDUCE JUVENILE VANDALISM AND A REVIEW OF EXISTING PROGRAMS.
Abstract
SEVERAL CITIES HAVE INITIATED PROGRAMS, SUCH AS OPERATION CRIME STOP, THROUGH WHICH CITIZENS CONTACT THE POLICE DEPARTMENT TO REPORT SUSPICIOUS PEOPLE OR ACTS. SUGGESTIONS INCLUDE INCREASED POLICE PATROLS IN AREAS WHERE VANDALISM OCCURS FREQUENTLY, POLICE-SPONSORED EDUCATION PROGRAMS FOR CITIZENS ON PROPERTY PROTECTION, JUVENILE CURFEWS, PUNISHMENT FOR VANDALS AND THEIR PARENTS, AND PROGRAMS WHICH STIMULATE YOUNG PEOPLE'S SUPPORT THROUGH THEIR PARTICIPATION.
