This report provides information on juvenile victims of violent crime in Alabama in 2011.
Abstract
Highlights of findings in this report include the following: 10 percent of the victims of violent offenses reported in Alabama in 2011 were juveniles; of the 1,945 juvenile victims, 11 were homicide victims; 432 were rape victims; 151 were robbery victims; and 1,351 were victims of aggravated assault; 10 percent, or 6,057, of all victims of simple assault reported in 2011 were juveniles; 42 percent of the victims were males and 58 percent were females, while 41 percent of the victims were Black and 58 percent were White; hands, fists, or feet were used as a weapon in 65 of the incidents; 80 percent of the victims were acquainted with or related to the offender; and 61 percent of the offenses occurred at a residence, 13 percent occurred in a street or alley, and 8 percent occurred at a school. This report from the Alabama Statistical Analysis Center provides information on juvenile victims of violent crime in Alabama for the year 2011. Data for the report were obtained from the Crime Statistics and Information Division of the Alabama Criminal Justice Information Center. For this report, a juvenile is defined as a person 17 years of age or younger. Tables and figures
