NEED TO RAISE SALARIES AND ADOPT MANDATORY MINIMUM TRAINING STANDARDS FOR POLICEMEN IN KENTUCKY.
Abstract
SALARIES FOR KENTUCKY POLICEMEN ARE COMPARED TO SALARIES PAID TO OTHER TYPES OF WORKERS AND TO POLICEMEN IN OTHER STATES. A SALARY SUPPLEMENT IS PROPOSED FOR KENTUCKY. SIMILAR APPROACHES TO THE PROBLEM AS SEEN IN MARYLAND AND LOUISIANA ARE DISCUSSED. RECOMMENDATIONS ARE MADE FOR IMPROVING THE QUALITY OF LAW ENFORCEMENT THROUGH A MORE COMPREHENSIVE TRAINING PROGRAM. THE APPENDIX INCLUDES A BASIC CURRICULUM FOR USE IN THE TRAINING OF LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS.
