Abstract
This issue contains six primary articles examining issues related to law enforcement and public safety. The first article, Migrating the Next-Generation 9-1-1, discusses an initiative to update the 9-1-1 service infrastructure in the United States and Canada. The second article, Software for the First Responder, discusses the latest innovations in software available for use by law enforcement. The third article, Flash Mobs & Flash Robs: The Law Enforcement Response discusses the shift in law enforcement's response to flash mobs. The fourth article, Roadside Safety: Retro-Reflective Cars and Auto-Dimmed Light bars, discusses improvements to police vehicles to improve their visibility at night. The fifth article, Police Bicycle Instructor Course, discusses the inaugural public safety bicycle instructor training course (PSBITC) hosted by the Pittsfield Township Department of Public Safety in Ann Arbor, MI, in June 2011. The sixth article, Impact of a Recession: 10 Strategies for Success, lists 10 strategies that police departments may find useful to cope with budget cutbacks in a down economy.
