DESCRIPTIVE REPORT ON A REGIONAL COMPUTER-AIDED POLICE INFORMATION SYSTEM USED BY 19 POLICE AGENCIES IN THE EAST SAN GABRIEL VALLEY IN LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CALIFORNIA.
Abstract
LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS IN THE VARIOUS MUNICIPALITIES CONTRIBUTE TO THE DATA BASE AND RETRIEVE INFORMATION FROM IT BY TELEPHONE. FUTURE PLANS CALL RETRIEVAL DIRECTLY THROUGH DISPLAY TERMINALS. THE TOPICS DISCUSSED IN THIS REPORT INCLUDE THE COMPUTER SECURITY REQUIREMENTS, THE SYSTEM CONFIGURATION, AND THE APPLICATIONS OF THE EAST VALLEY INFORMATION SYSTEM (EVIS). THE APPLICATION COMPONENTS ARE GROUPED INTO THE FOLLOWING THREE GENERAL FUNCTIONS AND SEVEN SUBSYSTEMS; SYSTEM CONTROL FUNCTION (BASIC SUPPORT SUBSYSTEM); FIELD INVESTIGATION SUPPORT FUNCTION (SUBJECT, ACTIVITY, AND CASE INFORMATION SUBSYSTEMS); AND THE FIELD OPERATION SUPPORT FUNCTION (CASE MANAGEMENT, OPERATIONS REPORTING, AND RESOURCE CONTROL SUBSYSTEMS). EACH OF THESE FUNCTIONS AND SUBFUNCTIONS ARE DISCUSSED IN DETAIL AND ILLUSTRATED IN CHART FORM.
