Abstract
TOPICS DISCUSSED INCLUDE THE NATURE AND SCOPE OF THE SCHOOLS DUTY TO PROTECT ITS STUDENTS AND THE POWER AND AUTHORITY OF LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICIALS ON SCHOOL GROUNDS. A SUMMARY OF CRIMINAL VIOLATIONS WHICH OCCUR MOST OFTEN ON SCHOOL CAMPUSES CONSIDERS THE CALIFORNIA LAWS COVERING DRUGS, WEAPONS, FIGHTING, STEALING, CRIMES AGAINST SCHOOL PERSONNEL AND PROPERTY, AND THE PRESENCE OF UNDESIRABLE PERSONS. ALSO COVERED ARE ARRESTS, DETENTIONS, SEARCHES, AND SEIZURES BY SCHOOL OFFICIALS. THE VARIOUS STATUTORY GROUNDS FOR SUSPENSION OR EXPULSION ARE ALSO EXPLORED. IN ADDITION, THE LIMITS OF DISCIPLINE IN RELATION TO FREE SPEECH AND RELIGION IN THE SCHOOL ARE OUTLINED. AN INDEX IS INCLUDED.
