The book opens with a statement of the Young People's Bill of Rights composed by the New York State Division for Youth. One section reviews the negative physical and psychological effects of alcohol and various drugs followed by listings of organizations and programs that can help youth deal with drug and alcohol abuse. Services are also listed for youth who have been the victims of parental and other physical and sexual abuse. General individual and family counseling services are listed as well. Other resources pertain to youth advocacy, suicide, bereavement, runaways, educational needs, employment opportunities, legal services, and constructive leisure activities. A section on health resources covers teen sexuality, family planning clinics, pregnancy counseling services, sexually transmitted diseases, and AIDS.
