This report discusses issues related to staff training and recruitment in the Canadian Ministry of Correctional Services.
The first part of the report provides background information on the need to revitalize the Ministry's staff training and development functions, as well as its methods for recruiting and selecting new correctional officers. The second section outlines an integrated correctional officer recruitment, selection, and basic training model and identifies the key knowledge, skills, and abilities required for correctional officers. The draft training curriculum presented here includes two pre-employment components and a 3-month on-the-job training program.
