Abstract
In addition to the loss of evidence for prosecution purposes, liability on the part of the police officer, administrator or agency is often a result of failure to comply with constitutional mandates. A thorough knowledge of the Constitution as interpreted by the courts can avoid unauthorized action and make it possible for an officer to act with confidence. The book gives special attention to the legal standards relating to detention, arrest, search, questioning suspects and pretrial identification procedures. Separate chapters are devoted to search and seizure with and without a warrant. Every chapter includes a summary. Notes, appendix, index
