SURVEY OF CONDITIONS OF SIX COUNTY JAILS IN THE GEORGIA COASTAL REGION WHICH WILL BE REPLACED BY A NEW, CENTRALIZED DETENTION CENTER.
Abstract
THE ARTICLE DESCRIBES THE INADEQUATE AND DILAPIDATED CONDITIONS OF THE SIX JAILS WHICH WILL BE REPLACED BY A SINGLE MODERN DETENTION CENTER, PARTIALLY FINANCED BY AN LEAA GRANT. THE NEW FACILITY WILL CONTAIN ROOMS FOR EDUCATIONAL AND MEDICAL PURPOSES, OFFICES FOR THE SHERIFF AND POLICE, AND CAPABILITIES TO HOUSE 65 INMATES. SPECIAL SEGREGATED ACCOMODATIONS FOR WOMEN, FELONS, MISDEMEANANTS, MENTALLY DERANGED OR SICK AND INJURED INMATES, AND DRUNKS WILL BE PROVIDED.
