OVERVIEW OF PROBLEMS OF CONTEMPORARY TERRORISM, SUCH AS PERSONAL AND FACILITY PROTECTION, BOMBINGS, RANSOMS, AND HIJACKINGS, WITH DISCUSSION OF WHY THE AUTHOR PREDICTS AN INCREASE IN TERRORIST ACTIVITY.
Abstract
THE AUTHOR DEPICTS TERRORISM AS AN EFFECTIVE MEANS OF POLITICAL OR PAROCHIAL GAIN WITHIN SOCIETIES VULNERABLE TO FEAR, CONFUSION, DISRUPTION, AND THE INFLUENCES OF MASS MEDIA INFORMATION. HE WARNS AGAINST THE DANGER OF OVER-REACTION AND ADVISES A MIDDLE COURSE OF CONTINUING TO SLOWLY IMPROVE THE CONCEPT OF A 'TOLERANT, COOPERATIVE AND CIVILIZED COMMUNITY'.
