Nevada has established and gradually expanded and improved a statewide police network, a computer system with a volume that increased from 35,499 transactions per day in 1986 to 206,000 transactions per day by 1989.
Abstract
The new UNISYS 1100 added in 1986 allowed State network planners to reduce response time from 5 minutes to under 10 seconds. The network now provides a single point for access to criminal history and warrant files. Recent upgrades provide an interlocking information network that is so efficient that a police officer on patrol in a vehicle can obtain vital information in seconds regarding any vehicle stopped for any routine violation or traffic check. The system now has 500 directly connected users and 675 indirect users, some of whom use personal computers, laptop computers, and mobile terminals. The number of portable terminals is likely to increase in the future. Photographs
