DETAILED DESCRIPTION AND EVALUATION OF THIS MULTI-ELEMENT PROGRAM WHICH COVERED PREVENTION, STREET DETERRENCE/ INTERCEPTION, AND INVESTIGATION.
Abstract
THE PRIMARY GOAL OF THIS CRIME SPECIFIC PROGRAM WAS TO REDUCE THE OFFENSE RATE OF ROBBERY OR AT LEAST TO HALT THE PROJECTED RISE. OVER THE 27 MONTH DURATION OF THE PROGRAM, MIAMI EXPERIENCED A 16 PER CENT REDUCTION IN ROBBERY OFFENSES. OTHER SUBGOALS REALIZED INCLUDED A 48 PER CENT INCREASE IN CLEARANCE RATES AND A 51 PER CENT RISE IN ROBBERY ARRESTS. PROJECT ACCOMPLISHMENTS IN EACH AREA ARE DISCUSSED IN DETAIL. SOME OF THE MAIN ELEMENTS OF THE PROGRAM INCLUDED ROBBERY BAIT PACKS, A CRIMINAL INFORMATION CENTER, AND THE ROBBERY TACTICAL OPERATIONS PLATOON (TOP) SQUAD. EACH ELEMENT OF THIS ROBBERY CONTROL PROJECT IS EVALUATED INDIVIDUALLY. OFFENSE, ARREST, AND CLEARANCE STATISTICS ARE PROVIDED. A LEAA EXEMPLARY PROJECT VALIDATION REPORT IS INCLUDED IN THE APPENDIX.
