Abstract
A QUESTIONNAIRE SURVEY OF ALL KNOWN MICHIGAN POLICE DEPARTMENTS AND OTHER STATE AND NATIONAL SELECTION PROCEDURES ARE REVIEWED, TOGETHER WITH LITERATURE CONCERNING THEORETICAL AND SCIENTIFIC TECHNIQUES, IN ORDER TO ASSESS THE SUITABILITY OF PRESENT STATE STANDARDS, AND TO PROVIDE ASSISTANCE IN INCREASING THE PROFESSIONALIZATION OF LOCAL DEPARTMENTS. THE STUDY DOES NOT RECOMMEND UNIFORM PRACTICES BUT PROVIDES DATA FOR UPGRADING PRESENT SELECTION PROCEDURES.
