EVALUATION OF A GUIDED GROUP INTERACTION-COMMUNITY RELEASE PROGRAM BY THE MINNESOTA DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS.
Abstract
IN 1969, A TOTAL OF 193 BOYS WERE SERVED BY THE INSTITUTION-COMMUNITY CONTINUUM PROGRAM. PHASE I, GUIDED GROUP INTERACTION, SERVED 87 INITIAL ADMISSIONS AND 15 RECYCLES, WHILE PHASE II, COMMUNITY RELEASE, SERVED 153 INITIAL ADMISSIONS AND 25 RECYCLES. OF THE 113 BOYS WERE (61.9 PERCENT) COMPLETED THE PROGRAM SUCCESSFULLY AND 43 (38.1 PERCENT) FAILED. THE AVERAGE NUMBER OF DAYS SPENT IN ALL PHASES OF THE PROGRAM WAS 374.5 DAYS. AVERAGE LENGTH OF STAY IN THE INSTITUTIONAL PHASE WAS 79.3 DAYS AND IN THE COMMUNITY PHASE OF 189.2 DAYS. BY COMPARISON, YOUTH IN THE USUAL INSTITUTIONAL PROGRAM SPENT 225.0 DAYS AND 330.0 DAYS ON PAROLE IN THE STANDARD PAROLE PROGRAM - NEARLY, TWICE AS LONG. AUTHOR ABSTRACT
