This annual report for the year 2001 provides pertinent statistics regarding the number and characteristics of referrals made to Missouri’s juvenile courts.
Abstract
Following a brief overview explaining that the numbers represented in this report are not individual children, but are separately disposed court referrals, the authors break down the total numbers of referrals to Missouri’s juvenile courts by race and gender, referral types, referral trends, referral sources, common major allegations, disposition of referrals, certifications to adult court, and pre-hearing placements. Addressing law violation referrals, this report presents a series of charts and tables documenting law violation outcomes, prior violations, and age distribution of law violators before discussing status offense referral statistics such as status offense outcomes and status offense placements. This report highlights abuse, neglect, and custody referral outcome statistics as well as the age distribution of abuse, neglect, and custody referrals. The remainder of this report comprises a series of appendices presenting total juvenile court referral outcomes; law violation referral outcomes; status offense referral outcomes; abuse, neglect, and custody referral outcomes and referrals by type and level by both circuit and county; as well as out-of-home placements; in-home services; and the number of juveniles certified to adult courts by circuit, race, and gender.
