STUDY OF THE 5,083 INDIVIDUALS PLACED ON PROBATION BY THE CIRCUIT COURTS OF MISSOURI DURING THE PERIOD FROM JULY 1, 1968 THROUGH JUNE 30, 1970.
Abstract
FROM JULY 1, 1968, TO SEPTEMBER 30, 1971, 3,331 OF THE 5,083 PLACED ON PROBATION WERE TERMINATED VIA DISCHARGE AT THE COMPLETION OF THEIR PROBATION PERIOD OR BY REVOCATION OF THEIR PROBATION. TWO GROUPS OF PROBATIONERS ARE ANALYZED IN THIS REPORT. FIRST THE REPORT SUPPLIES DATA IN REGARD TO THE CHARACTERISTICS AND INITIAL DISPOSITION OF THE 5,083 INDIVIDUALS PLACED ON PROBATION DURING THE STUDY PERIOD. SECONDLY IT TAKES A LOOK AT THE 3,331 INDIVIDUALS WHO WERE TERMINATED. REVIEWING 1,023 OF THE 3,331 WHO WERE TERMINATED BY REVOCATION OF PROBATION AND THE REMAINING 2,312 WHO SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED THEIR PROBATIONARY PERIOD, REPORT VIEWS THE KINDS OF INDIVIDUALS THAT SUCCEEDED AND FAILED ON PROBATION. AS THERE ARE SOME 1,752 INDIVIDUALS STILL ON PROBATION FROM TOTAL SAMPLE, A FOLLOW-UP STUDY WILL NEED TO BE MADE TO GET A COMPLETE PICTURE OF ALL INDIVIDUALS WHO WERE PLACED ON PROBATION DURING THE STUDY PERIOD.
