Tabulated data show Netherlands' criminal police statistics for July and the first half year of 1981, judicial statistics for the first quarter 1981, and statistics on application of the Economic Offenses Act for the first half year 1981 and on shoplifting for the same period.
Abstract
The shoplifting data were obtained from a newly instituted study involving some 4,000 businesses reporting shoplifting incidents to the Central Bureau of Statistics on a monthly basis. The general rise in shoplifting incidents have risen from 11,500 petty thefts in 1970 to more than 31,000 in 1980; by 1981, the total was 36,000. The tables reporting crimes known to the police for July list offenses by Province, by groups of municipalities, by nature of the offense, and according to the reporting police authority (i.e., State and municipal police and the Royal Marechaussee). The report includes traffic and other nonindictable offenses and judicial statistics for ordinary and military courts. Persons taken in custody in the first half year of 1981 are cited. Data on economic crimes show cases investigated, criminal cases brought before the district courts and the court of appeal, and cases disposed of at the district court by decision of the public prosecutor. Additional data are given on adoption, bankruptcies, and fires. The report consists predominantly of tabular material.
