Abstract
THE AUTHOR TRACES PATTERNS AND ROUTES OF ILLICIT TRAFFIC IN DIFFERENT TYPES OF NARCOTICS AND PROSCRIBED DRUGS. THE SECTION ON HEROIN, FOR EXAMPLE, TRACES THIS DRUG FROM THE POPPY FIELDS OF TURKEY TO THE LABORATORIES AT MARSEILLE TO THE PORT OF NEW YORK. THE ROLES OF THE VARIOUS LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES ARE DELINEATED INCLUDING THEIR JURISDICTIONS AND AREAS OF SPECIAL INTEREST. PROCEDURES FOR CONDUCTING RAIDS ARE DISCUSSED ALONG WITH LEGAL WAYS OF COLLECTING EVIDENCE. THE DIFFERENT FORMS OF TREATMENT ARE REVIEWED FOLLOWED BY A CHAPTER IN WHICH THE AUTHOR RELATES CASE HISTORIES OF DRUG RAIDS WHICH RESULT IN BOTH SUCCESSFUL AND UNSUCCESSFUL PROSECUTIONS. COLOR PHOTOGRAPHS ILLUSTRATE THE TEXT. A GLOSSARY OF DRUG TERMS, A MODEL COMMUNITY DRUG ABUSE PREVENTION PROGRAM, AND A RESOURCE LIST OF DRUG ABUSE LITERATURE ARE APPENDED.
