This resource manual contains materials covering all aspects of prison industry planning, design, and implementation.
Abstract
To assist in the planning phases of prison industries, the manual presents material on goals and objectives, prison industry models, strategic and business planning, fiscal and financial planning, and grants and special funding. A discussion of various facility issues covers construction, design, and safety and security. State legislation bearing upon the effectiveness of prison industries is discussed along with private-sector involvement in prison industries. Material on training issues addresses both correctional staff training and inmate workforce training. Policies and procedures for prison industries are also reviewed. Marketing and State products and product manuals are discussed as crucial aspects of a successful prison industry. Remaining issues considered are labor relations, a private sector/prison industry enhancement certification program, and a prison industries information clearinghouse.
