This 1998-99 directory provides the addresses, telephone numbers, fax numbers, and the names of contact persons for Federal, State, county, and municipal agencies that provide services to children, youth, and families.
Abstract
The front of the directory lists the numbers of health and welfare hotlines. Part I is a guide to services provided by States, counties, and cities. State-level information describes how each State's social/human services, health services, and juvenile justice agencies operate throughout that State. Each State is divided by county or city (populations included). A city-county guide is located at the beginning of the county information. Social services include departments for child protection services, adoption, foster care, child welfare, day care, etc., with names of key contacts, hotlines, after-hour phone numbers, and crisis phone numbers. Health services include health departments with divisions of maternal and child health, family planning, immunizations, nutrition, mental health, alcohol and substance abuse, etc. Names of key contacts are included. Juvenile justice agencies include juvenile and family courts, probation, law enforcement agencies, and youth correctional facilities; judges, probation officers, and counselors are included. Special services agencies include public and private treatment centers, psychiatric and specialized hospitals, special schools, information/referral phone numbers, domestic violence centers, and community service programs. Key contacts are included, along with comprehensive descriptions of the services offered. Part II provides assistance in locating Federal administrators and policymakers of programs that assist children, youth, young adults, and their families; it contains Senate and House committees. National resource centers and clearinghouses are listed and offer support in setting up programs, training, and related services available to caregiving agencies. Also included are national organizations that provide nationwide networking services for children, youth, and families, along with runaway youth centers and the Armed Services YMCA of the United States. Part III is the buyers guide and resource section. This is a guide to specialized services and products for professionals and families.
