This issue of the National Drug Court Institute Review marks the beginning of research on a participant’s perceptions of the drug court program and those factors that influence the participant’s success or failure.
Abstract
This issue of the National Drug Court Institute Review asks fundamental questions about what influences the success or failure of the drug court participant and how drug courts maximize those factors that encourage success. In this issue five articles focus on: (1) the description and definition of the different kinds of sanctions compatible to a drug court setting and their impact on the participant; (2) the determining broad factors that predict success or failure for participants and how that information can be used to make drug courts more effective; (3) the impact of the drug court program from successful and unsuccessful participant’s perspective; (4) the implications of linkages between drug courts and jail-based treatment and the role of the drug court as a “re-entry” mechanism for offenders being released from local custody; and (5) five recent drug court research evaluations.
