PROCEEDINGS OF THIS CONFERENCE WHOSE MAIN WORK COMPRISED FOUR MAJOR AREAS - CURRICULUM, INSTITUTIONAL AND PROFESSIONAL ENVIRONMENT, STATE PLANS, AND TRAINING DESIGN, INCLUDING COPIES OF CONFERENCE ADDRESSES.
Abstract
HELD AT TEMPLE UNIVERSITY ON NOVEMBER 1 AND 2, 1974, THIS CONFERENCE PRESENTED A PROGRAM TO PREPARE COLLEGE STUDENTS TO INITIATE PLANNED CHANGE IN CRIMINAL JUSTICE WAS PRESENTED INCLUDING A DESCRIPTION OF THE UTILIZATION OF CHANGE AGENT TRAINING (CAT), APPLIED SCIENTIFIC METHODS, AND CHANGE STRATEGIES, QUALIFICATIONS OF FACULTY, CURRICULUM CONTENT, CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT, AND STANDARDIZATION FORMED THE BASIS FOR THE DISCUSSION IN THIS WORKSHOP. FACTORS AFFECTING THE INSTITUTIONAL AND PROFESSIONAL ENVIRONMENT OF CRIMINAL JUSTICE EDUCATION WERE IDENTIFIED AS: JOB EXPECTATION, THE GENERAL PURPOSE OF EDUCATION, VALUES OF CHANGE, RECRUITING, TEAM POLICING, MAXIMIZATION OF DISCRETION, AND MAXIMIZATION OF INNOVATION. PERSPECTIVES ON THE LONG TERM EFFECTS OF PLANNING, ADEQUATE STAFFING WITH PROFESSIONAL PLANNERS, INFORMATION, THE SYSTEMIC APPROACH IN PLANNING AND ACADEMIC PROGRAMS WERE ALSO PRESENTED. IN ADDITION, PSYCHOLOGICAL APPROACHES TO CRISIS INTERVENTION WERE DESCRIBED INCLUDING THE NON-VERBAL MESSAGE, SPATIAL CONCEPTIONALIZATION, THE POWER STRUGGLE, THE PHYSICAL CONFRONTATION, THE PROBLEM-SOLVING ORIENTATION.
