EXPLORATION OF THE STRUCTURE OF A PROPOSED MODEL CRIME PREVENTION INSTITUTE AND DISCUSSION OF THE MAJOR COMPONENTS OF SUCH A PROGRAM.
Abstract
THE MODEL CRIME PREVENTION INSTITUTE IS AN EXAMPLE OF A PROPOSED CRIME PREVENTION EFFORT INCORPORATING EDUCATION AND RESEARCH. THE RESEARCH UNIT OF THIS INSTITUTE WOULD BE A MAJOR COMPONENT RESPONSIBLE FOR THE MAINTENANCE OF AN INVENTORY OF APPROACHES, MATERIALS, AND PERSONNEL USED IN EXISTING CRIME PREVENTION PROGRAMS. THE INSTRUCTIONAL PROGRAMS OF THIS ORGANIZATION WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR TRAINING OF PERSONNEL AND WOULD STRESS ORGANIZATIONAL DEVELOPMENT. COMPUTER TECHNOLOGY IS ALSO A SIGNIFICANT PART OF SUCH A PROGRAM IN THAT IT WOULD ENHANCE BOTH THE RESEARCH AND INSTRUCTIONAL COMPONENTS. RECOMMENDATIONS FOR SUCH A PROGRAM INCLUDE CREATION BY THE LEGISLATURE OF A SPECIAL UNIT WITHIN THE DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE OR ESTABLISHMENT OF SUCH A PROGRAM IN ONE OF THE STATE UNIVERSITIES.
