Abstract
EMPHASIS IS GIVEN TO COMMUNITY BASED PROGRAMS, INCLUDING FURLOUGHS, TREATMENT CENTERS, WORK RELEASE, CITIZEN PARTICIPATION COMMITTEES, AND THE USE OF VOLUNTEERS IN THESE PROGRAMS. THE GENERAL CHARACTER OF THE TYPICAL OFFENDER AND HIS REHABILITATIVE NEEDS IN THE AREAS OF RELATIONSHIPS, EDUCATION, CULTURE, AND VOCATION ARE DESCRIBED. MOTIVATION AND THE VARIETY OF BACKGROUNDS AND ABILITIES NEEDED IN VOLUNTEERS IS DISCUSSED. ATTITUDINAL AND TASK GUIDELINES ARE LISTED FOR PROFESSIONAL STAFF, VOLUNTEERS, RESIDENTS, AND PAROLEES IN THE VOLUNTEER PROGRAM. THERE IS A GLOSSARY OF CORRECTION TERMS AND INMATE JARGON.
