The report highlights the North Carolina Judicial Standards Commission's 1980 activities and also gives a summary of activities since 1973.
Abstract
Creation and organization of the commission is summarized and a statement made of its purpose and function, (i.e., to review complaints concerning the qualifications or conduct of any justice or judge of the General Court of Justice). Rules and procedure of the Commission's operation are also explained. The 1980 activities are reported in terms of meetings and workload, with the latter amounting to 92 total inquiries to be handled and 73 disposed during the year. Of seven preliminary investigations ordered or considered, three resulted in two formal proceedings; one was concluded with a reprimand, while the second proceeded to a formal hearing with recommendation for removal. Appendixes list past and present commission members, supreme court opinions regarding commission recommendations, and activities between 1973 and 1980. Charts and tabular data are given.
