A survey of drunkenness offenses in England and Wales in 1991 found that 75,400 persons were found guilty of or cautioned for offenses of drunkenness; this represented a decline of 13 percent from 1990 figures.
Abstract
The London metropolitan police district had the highest rate of offending for drunkenness, at 613 per 100,000 population. There was a decrease, from 1,690 in 1990 to 880 in 1991, in the number of minors found guilty of or cautioned for buying alcohol illegally. Seventy-five percent of offenders between the ages of 18 and 20 were convicted of or cautioned for aggravated drunkenness; 42 percent of those over age 30 committed the same offense. The peak age of known offending for drunkenness is 19 years for females and 20 years for males. The percentage of offenders cautioned for offenses of drunkenness has risen steadily and rapidly from 2 percent to 61 percent over the past decade. 9 tables, 4 figures, and 8 notes
