This report presents monthly statistics on referrals to the Oklahoma juvenile justice system, admissions to secure juvenile detention, intake decisions, delinquent adjudications, delinquent court dispositions, custody placements, and custody and probation caseloads in the juvenile justice system from July 1996 through May 1997.
Abstract
Each of these major activities is examined by offense type wherever possible. The offense types include violent felony offenses, other felony offenses, misdemeanor offenses, other delinquent offenses, and juvenile status offenses. The juvenile justice system received 27,461 referrals of 18,620 juveniles, of whom 13,985 were referred only once. Nearly 41 percent of the referrals were for felony offenses. An average of 371 juveniles were admitted to secure detention facilities each month. Petitions were filed on 50.1 percent of the felony offenders and were declined on 54.9 percent of other offenders. An average of 366 juveniles were adjudicated delinquent each month, including 58 juveniles adjudicated delinquent for violent felonies each month. Figures, tables, and appended list of offenses
