THE OPERATION OF FOUR OPEN PRISONS IN THE NETHERLANDS IS DESCRIBED, AND PROBLEMS RELATED TO INMATE ADAPTATION, OUTSIDE OPINION, INTERNAL ORGANIZATION, AND STAFF-INMATE RELATIONS ARE DISCUSSED.
Abstract
INMATES WORK IN THE DAYTIME EITHER IN LOCAL INDUSTRIAL PLANTS OR AS CRAFTSMEN, DEPENDING ON THEIR PROFESSIONAL TRAINING. NIGHTS AND WEEKENDS ARE SPENT AT THE FACILITY. WEEKEND LEAVE IS ALLOWED EVERY SIXTH WEEK TO VISIT RELATIVES. THE FACILITY IS OPEN TO SELECTED PRISONERS WHO HAVE SERVED AT LEAST HALF OF THEIR SENTENCE OR A MINIMUM OF 8 MONTHS IN A CLOSED FACLITY. --IN DUTCH...ELW
