ADDITIONALLY, SURVEYS WERE UNDERTAKEN OF THE JAILS IN THIS REGION AND THE RESULTS OF THESE SURVEYS ARE PRESENTED HERE. THEN TOO, DETAILED DATA WERE COLLECTED ON THE JAIL POPULATIONS DURING 1969 IN THESE JAILS, WITH SOME OF THAT MATERIAL APPEARING IN THIS REPORT. FINALLY, A NUMBER OF INTERVIEWS WERE CONDUCTED WITH PRISONERS IN SEVERAL JAILS. THESE VIGNETTES ARE PRESENTED HERE, SO THAT THEY PROVIDE SOME ADDITIONAL FACTUAL INFORMATION UPON WHICH CORRECTIONAL PLANNING IN REGION 9 MIGHT BE UNDERTAKEN. THE PRESENT REPORT IS DESIGNED AS A FACTUAL DOCUMENT ON WHICH COOPERATIVE PLANNING FOR CORRECTIONAL CHANGE, INVOLVING STATE AND LOCAL CORRECTIONAL PERSONS, CAN BE UNDERTAKEN. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT)
