A system for assessing risk factors among chemically dependent populations was evaluated.
Abstract
Fifty chemically dependent subjects, including 25 offenders (experimental group) and 25 nonoffenders (control group), were administered the self-reporting Outpatient Forensic Substance Abuse Profile (OFSAP). The experimental and control groups differed significantly on scores of criminality, but not on scores of addiction. OFSAP was found to be clinically useful and reliable, both internally and across time. Users accepted it as having a good format and clear questions, and as promoting honesty. The high degree of agreement between OFSAP scores and independent assessments made by intake workers and clinicians suggests that OFSAP is able to predict high-risk factors prior to an extensive clinical assessment. 1 table, 1 appendix, and 5 references
