PENNSYLVANIA CRIME COMMISSION REPORT ON ORGANIZED CRIME

NCJ Number
9525
Author(s)
C KARCHER; D LITTLE
Date Published
1970
Length
217 pages
Annotation
A DETAILED PICTURE OF THE PROBLEM OF ORGANIZED CRIME IN PENNSYLVANIA WHICH EMPHASIZES THE DIMENSIONS OF THIS DANGER TO GOVERNMENT, BUSINESS, LABOR, AND CITIZENS.
Abstract
A COMPREHENSIVE ACCOUNT OF SYNDICATED CRIME INVOLVEMENT IN VARIOUS CRIMINAL ENTERPRISES INCLUDES GAMBLING, LOAN SHARKING, NARCOTICS TRAFFIC, AND PROSTITUTION. THE COMMISSION BELIEVES THAT THE MOST HARMFUL EFFECT OF ORGANIZED CRIME ACTIVITY IS THE UNDERMINING OF GOVERNMENT IN PENNSYLVANIA AND SEES A COORDINATED INTERAGENCY ASSAULT AS THE FIRST REQUISITE ACTION. THE COMMISSION SUGGESTS NEW LEGISLATION AND REFORMS IN CRIMINAL PROCEDURE WHICH WOULD BE EFFECTIVE ON THE FLIGHT.
