DESCRIPTION OF MILITARY POLICE TRAINING PROGRAM IN WHICH STUDENTS LEARN SEGMENTS OF THE JOB THROUGH INDIVIDUALIZED AUDIO-VISUAL INSTRUCTION AND BY ACTUALLY PERFORMING IN SIMULATED JOB SITUATIONS.
Abstract
WITH THE HELP OF 'PEER INSTRUCTORS' (PI), STUDENTS MUST RECEIVE A 100 PERCENT PERFORMANCE EVALUATION FROM A QUALIFIED MILITARY POLICEMAN ON EACH INSTRUCTIONAL MODULE OR SUBJECT AREA, SUCH AS INCIDENT INVESTIGATION, EVIDENCE HANDLING, OR APPREHENSION AND SEARCH. (A 'PI' IS A FELLOW STUDENT WHO HAS COMPLETED TRAINING AND SUCCESSFULLY PASSED THE PERFORMANCE EVALUATION.) THE ADVANTAGES OF THIS TYPE OF INSTRUCTION INCLUDE ITS EMPHASIS ON PERFORMANCE-ORIENTED INSTRUCTION, GUARANTEED STUDENT MASTERY OF ALL OF THE MATERIAL, INSTRUCTOR FREEDOM TO SERVE AS RESOURCE PERSONS AND QUALITY CONTROL, AND THE ONE-TO-ONE STUDENT-TEACHER (PI) RATIO. THE ONE DISADVANTAGE CITED WAS THE HIGH ONE-TIME 'TOOLING-UP' COSTS FOR EQUIPMENT SUCH AS VIDEOTAPE PLAYER/MONITORS AND SLIDE/TAPE MACHINES. THE AUTHOR INDICATES THAT THIS EXPERIMENTAL PROGRAM IS BOTH PREFERRED BY STUDENTS OVER 'LIVE' INSTRUCTOR LECTURES AND A MORE EFFECTIVE MEANS OF INSTRUCTION.
