AN APPROACH FOR AUTOMATIC INTERPRETATION AND CLASSIFICATION OF PICTORIAL PATTERNS WHICH CAN BE ADEQUATELY CHARACTERIZED BY THEIR INTENSITY BOUNDARIES.
Abstract
A SPECIFIC SCHEME IS DEVELOPED FOR APPLICATION TO SINGLE FINGERPRINTS, WHICH ARE PARTICULARLY SUITABLE PATTERNS IN THAT THEY CAN BE CHARACTERIZED AS LINE PATTERNS WITH VERY RICH TOPOLOGICAL STRUCTURE AND ESSENTIALLY NO OTHER MORPHOLOGICAL FEATURES. THE REPORT IS ORGANIZED IN TWO INDEPENDENT PARTS. PART I PRESENTS THE FUNDAMENTAL IDEAS FOR PICTORIAL PATTERN PROCESSING WHILE PART II TREATS, IN DEPTH, SINGLE FINGERPRINT CLASSIFICATION.
