Abstract
The focus of this April 2013 issue of the Police Chief Magazine is the topic of solutions for smaller law enforcement agencies. The first article presents an overview of solutions for smaller agencies, while the second article presents information on Transforming Underperforming Smaller Agencies into High-Performance Organizations. The third article discusses how to staff "small" departments, while the fourth article discusses the challenges, prospects, and opportunities that result from using evidence-based policing in smaller agencies. The fifth article discusses the future of policing in America and bringing the voice of the smaller agency into the national dialogue. Additional sections of the magazine include an article on purchasing best practices for use by law enforcement agencies, and the 2013 Buyers' Guide for use by law enforcement executives that offers the most up-to-date listings of the latest products and services available to law enforcement. The Buyers' Guide is divided into 15 sections: administration, animals, communications, computer hardware, computer software, emergency response, investigation, personal equipment, security, tactical and protective equipment, traffic enforcement, training, transportation, uniforms, and weapons.
