Police divers search for evidence and stolen property; recover bodies of victims of airplane, boat, and car accidents and of suicides; and search for bombs attached to vessels or along waterfronts.
Abstract
The police divers of Connecticut, Florida, and New York are among the busiest in the nation. They are called upon by law enforcement departments across the country to assist in recovery operations and in starting new diver teams. Strenuous physical conditioning is required for police divers because their job can be potentially very hazardous. Anecdotes, numerous photographs, and simple language portray police divers' risks and responsibilities. An index is included.
