A HANDBOOK DEVELOPED BY THE ORGANIZED CRIME COMMITTEE OF THE INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF CHIEFS OF POLICE AS A GUIDE FOR POLICE EXECUTIVES.
Abstract
AN OVERVIEW IS PRESENTED ON THE NATURE AND IMPACT OF ORGANIZED CRIME, AND ON THE POLICE EXECUTIVES PRIORITIES. STATUTES, AGENCIES, AND PERSONNEL INVOLVED IN THE FIGHT AGAINST ORGANIZED CRIME ARE OUTLINED, WITH CONCENTRATION ON LOCAL, STATE, FEDERAL, AND INTERNATIONAL SOURCES OF ASSISTANCE. SOURCES AND METHODS OF INTELLIGENCE GATHERING ARE DISCUSSED. THE IMPORTANCE OF COMMUNITY AND GOVERNMENT SUPPORT IS STRESSED. EFFECTIVE DISSEMINATION OF INFORMATION AND MEDIA COOPERATION ARE SUGGESTED TO GAIN SUCH SUPPORT. APPENDIXES INCLUDE A BIBLIOGRAPHY OF RELATED LITERATURE.
