Abstract
THE STUDY WAS DEVELOPED BY SELECTED POLICE OFFICERS, SCHOOL ADMINISTRATORS AND TEACHERS KNOWLEDGE OF THE MISSION AND FUNCTION OF LAW AND LAW ENFORCEMENT WAS SEEN AS A CONTRIBUTING FACTOR IN ADVERSE ATTITUDES TOWARD POLICE. IN FEBRUARY, 1973, THE PROGRAM WAS INSTITUTED EXPERIMENTALLY AT GATEWAY MIDDLE SCHOOL IN MAUMEE. THE STUDENTS TO BE TAUGHT AND THE MATCHING CONTROL GROUP WERE PRE-TESTED USING AN ATTITUDE SURVEY. FOLLOWING THE COMPLETION OF THE EXPERIMENTAL PROGRAM, ALL EXPERIMENTAL AND CONTROL SUBJECTS WERE RE-TESTED TO DETERMINE WHETHER ANY CHANGES HAD OCCURRED. AN ANALYSIS OF THE RESPONSES ON THE ATTITUDE SCALE AND A CRITIQUE OF THE PROGRAM CONTENT WERE CONDUCTED. A PLAN FOR THE DISSEMINATION OF THE INFORMATION ACCUMULATED DURING THE COURSE OF THE PROJECT WAS DEVELOPED. THE RESULTS SHOWED THAT THE PROGRAM MADE A DEFINITE CONTRIBUTION TO THE FIELD OF POLICE-JUVENILE RELATIONS.
