This issue of Policing: An International Journal of Police Strategies and Management contains several articles addressing a variety of both national and international policing issues.
Abstract
This issue contains a mix of articles addressing a variety of important topics in policing. Of the seven articles, four are based on research conducted in the U.S.: (1) a review of the occupational requirements of general duty police work to re-validate a physical abilities test used in the recruitment selection process; (2) an investigation of the influence of grip strength on semi-automatic handguns in basic law enforcement training; (3) a review of the persistent crime problem in a large, high crime apartment complex occupied by Latino and Vietnamese immigrants in California; (4) and the testing of the expectancy disconfirmation model using survey data from citizens who recently had police encounters. Three additional articles explore policing topics outside the U.S.: (1) a comparison of men and women police officers’ perception and experiences within and across three Caribbean nations; (2) an overview of the role computer software plays within police forces with particular attention paid to crime analysis and investigation computer systems; and (3) a testing of predictions derived from social psychological theorizing on the phenomenon concerning the effects of working alone or collectively on the quality of outcomes of police patrolling activity. In addition, this issue contains a book review, “Policing on the Web” through the National Criminal Justice Reference Service, and “Perspectives on Policing”, a synopsis of recent research.
