This report presents crime statistics for the Federal Republic of Germany for 1999, based on reports to the police.
Abstract
The report also presents year-by-year statistics from 1971 through 1999. The analysis notes that the police recorded 6,302,316 felonies and misdemeanors in 1999. This figure did not include traffic law offenses. The statistics counted punishable attempts and completed acts in the same manner. The offense rate was 7,682 per 100,000 population for all recorded felonies and misdemeanors. The crimes in 1999 included 1,652,759 thefts under aggravating circumstances, 1,480,659 thefts without aggravating circumstances, 717,333 cases of fraud, and 654,172 cases of damage to property. The cases also included 251,299 cases of slight bodily injury with intent; 226,563 drug law offenses; 136,285 cases of insult, assault, and battery; 133,052 felonies and misdemeanors against the personal liberty; and 115,980 cases of resisting a public officer in the execution of the office and misdemeanors against the public order. Further crimes included 114,516 cases of dangerous and grievous bodily injury; 82,744 cases of embezzlement; 72,819 cases of document forgery; 61,420 cases of robbery, extortion, and highway robbery in motor vehicles; and 37,781 cases of felonies and misdemeanors in violation of subsidiary laws in the economic area. Other crimes included 36,663 environmental offenses; 33,272 fraudulent conversion; 24,491 aiding and abetting, receiving stolen goods, and acting as an accessory after the fact; 29,003 arsons; 22,970 weapons violations; 14,687 non-payments of maintenance allowance; 7,565 rapes, rape attempts, and aggravated sexual assaults; 6,589 briberies and other crimes in office; and 2,851 murders, manslaughter, and murder and manslaughter attempts.
