This report presents statistical data regarding the number and types of crimes committed in North Carolina during 1994.
Abstract
The number of crime index offenses reported by North Carolina law enforcement agencies during 1994 increased 1 percent over 1993. Crime in both suburban and rural areas increased by 1 percent. The number of violent index offenses decreased by 2 percent statewide, while property crime increased by 2 percent. The number of juveniles under age 18 arrested for crime index offenses increased 7 percent over 1994, compared to a 4 percent decrease in adults 18 and over who were arrested. Youths arrested for violent crimes increased 3 percent, while adult arrests dropped by 6 percent. The number of property crime arrests for juveniles under age 18 increased by 7 percent, while adult arrests for all property crimes decreased by 2 percent. The number of North Carolina law enforcement officers assaulted increased by 1 percent over 1993; two law enforcement officers were feloniously killed in 1994, compared to four in 1993.
