SURVEY SUPPORTING THE CONTENTION THAT THE QUALITY OF PRISON HEALTH SERVICES HAS RISEN SINCE THE TRANSFER OF ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITY FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTION TO THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH.
Abstract
THE REPORT IS STRUCTURED CHRONOLOGICALLY. FOLLOWING A DESCRIPTION OF MAJOR ISSUES AND THE NATURE OF THE PROBLEM, THERE ARE DISCUSSIONS OF THREE DISTINCT PERIODS OF TIME: DELIVERY OF HEALTH CARE PRIOR TO SEPTEMBER 1971, FROM SEPTEMBER 1971 TO THE END OF THE JOHN V. LINSAY ADMINISTRATION, AND FROM THE BEGINNING OF MAYOR BEAME'S ADMINISTRATION TO THE PRESENT. ASSESSED ARE THE TYPE AND QUALITY OF CARE, ACCESSIBILITY, CONTINUITY, AND COST OF PRISON HEALTH SERVICES.
