THIS ARTICLE TRACES THE DEVELOPMENT OF PRISONERS' RIGHTS AND SURVEYS MAJOR CASE LAW ESTABLISHING PRISONERS' RIGHTS OF ACCESS TO COURTS AND LEGAL ASSISTANCE.
Abstract
PREVIOUS NATIONAL RESEARCH DEALING WITH PRISONERS AND THEIR LEGAL PROBLEMS IS SUMMARIZED TO PROVIDE A FRAMEWORK FOR PRESENTING THE FINDINGS OF A RESEARCH PROJECT CONDUCTED IN THE WASHINGTON STATE PRISON SYSTEM TO EVALUATE THE LEGAL NEEDS OF PRISONERS. SUGGESTIONS ARE OFFERED FOR INCREASING THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THE DELIVERY OF LEGAL SERVICES TO PRISONERS.
