Abstract
The first part of the paper deals with the development of private protection or private security by providing a detailed description of the development of private security agencies in the Republic of Slovenia since 1989. Private security agencies have been established on the basis of the Act on Enterprises, and current "security" agencies have been transformed into private security agencies or joint-stock companies. This article also discusses the establishment of the first "umbrella" organization for private security and the creation of the Chamber of the Republic of Slovenia for Private Security under the Act on Private Security and the Obligatory Organization of Security Services. The second part of the paper addresses the competencies and tasks of private security agencies in the Republic of Slovenia as well as the work areas and activities of private security agencies in contemporary society. In providing this overview, the author refers to domestic and foreign scientific and professional literature and to a research study that he conducted for his doctoral thesis. 2 figures and 25 references
